CAPTURE // what is ANPR?
ANPR stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition. It does what it states on the ‘tin’. It is a system that will capture number plates, and perform an action depending on the rules assigned on the system.
The first step is capturing the number plate. But what if that number plate meant to trigger a rule to open a gate or perhaps a garage and instead a vehicle, we have a burglar caring a number plate and waving it at your ANPR camera? That has happened in the past. This is why our favourite brand Hikvision have developed a smart ANPR camera that knows the difference between a person and car, making the system tougher.
The Data Processing Stage
What happens on reading a number plate?

The system will be installed on a server or on a compatible computer. This will have a secure database holding all information about a vehicle number plate, vehicle owned by, captured images of the vehicle and the list goes on.
All of this information is stored on a local database. When a number plate is captured on one of the ANPR cameras, the number plate is checked against the information stored on the database and then it will trigger an action depending on the rules assigned.

What can the system do?

This is the fun part. The big question, what would you like the ANPR system to do when capturing a number plate on one of your cameras?
The system can do the following, but NOT limited to:
-Open a gate, garage, barrier etc
-Trigger an alarm
-Notify you or an alarm monitored centre
-Trigger a PTZ camera to follow and track that vehicle
-Enable/Disable the property alarm
